Disney Pixar’s Brave
Don’t mess with Mama Bear! That’s the moral of the story behind Disney Pixar’s Brave. Ok, so there was much more too it than that, but I don’t want to give anything away to those who haven’t seen it yet.
Merida is cute and endearing from the opening scene, as are her three brothers. There are funny, laugh out loud scenes throughout the film that parents and kids will enjoy along with tear-jerking moments in between the action and fast-paced adventure that never seems to slow down.
I was a bit concerned that my 8-year-old son wouldn’t be interested in seeing this movie with me since the main character is a girl (he’s in that ‘girls have cooties’ phase at the moment), but it turns out, there’s enough action to appeal to the boys in the audience who like fighting and suspense. There was a lot of humorous mischief too that kept my son laughing (louder and longer than everyone else, it seemed).
This is not your typical princess film and, without spoiling the ending, I will say that I was caught off guard with the direction the story went. I was pleasantly surprised and find myself wanting to see it again – that never happens with me!
If you have kids – boys or girls – the messages of family, love and fate, will speak to you all and you will walk out of the theater wanting to hug whoever is at your side, especially if it’s your mother.
By the way – I added the Brave video game (for the Wii) to my wishlist. Pretty sure I’ll be purchasing that one – for myself – pretty soon.
